Fr. Charles Buckley, O.S.B.

 

 

Father Charles professed vows as a monk of St. Gregory’s Abbey on August 15, 1966.  He was ordained to the priesthood on June 20, 1970.

Fr. Charles was born in El Dorado, AR. Having spent most of his childhood in St. Patrick Parish in Oklahoma City, he attended St. Gregory's High School. He then completed his bachelor's degree in mathematics at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.  After entering the monastery, he completed a Master of Divinity degree at St. Louis University and a Ph.D. in Math Education at Columbia University in New York City.

Fr. Charles has served in a wide variety of roles at St. Gregory's Abbey, College and University. In the College and University, he served as a career counselor, dean of students, chaplain and as Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2002-2005. Throughout his years in education, he was a professor of mathematics. He served as an effective tutor for students who struggled with the subject matter. He served for over many years on the St. Gregory's University Board of Directors. After the closure of St. Gregory’s University, Fr. Charles ministered to the Catholic Community of the Chapel at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City from 2018 to 2022, celebrating the sacraments and provide pastoral counseling to members of the armed forces and their families.

Fr. Charles has served in the monastic community as vocation director, subprior, prior, formation director of the community and numerous times on the Abbey Senior Council.  He was a monastic member of the Board of Trustees for the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art. Currently he assists with preparation of intercessory prayers for the community Mass and assists in management of The Monks Marketplace at the Abbey.
