
Br. Joseph Romo De la Torre, OSB
Br. Joseph professed vows as a monk of St. Gregory’s Abbey on March 19, 2025, the Solemnity of his patron, St. Joseph.
Br. Joseph was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and given the name Francisco Romo de la Torre. He immigrated to the United States in his early teenage years. After living for a time in California and Idaho, he moved to Oklahoma City to join members of his family. He was an active member of St. Eugene Parish and Sacred Heart Parish. He participated in a “Come and See Weekend” at the monastery at the recommendation of his pastor. He was received as a novice on March 18, 2024, receiving the name of Br. Joseph.
Br. Joseph currently serves as an assistant sacristan and especially enjoys cleaning and preparing linens for use at Mass. He enjoys outdoor work and is assigned to care for the monastery grounds. He also serves on the monastery maintenance staff, where he puts to use the mechanical skills he developed before entering the monastery. Br. Joseph proudly became a citizen of the United States on August 12, 2025.
