Very Rev. Boniface Copelin, O.S.B.

Very Reverend Boniface serves as Prior of the monastery.  In this role, he serves as a special advisor and assist of the Abbot and serves as acting superior when the Abbot is absent from the monastery. He also serves as Vocation Director, Formation Direct of Junior Master, or director of the monks in temporary vows.  Father Boniface made his monastic profession of vows on September 14, 2001, and was ordained to the priesthood on August 21, 2008.

Born in Marietta, GA, Fr. Boniface spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma City, attending Villa Teresa School, St. Charles Borromeo School and Bishop McGuinness High School. He completed an associate degree at St. Gregory's College and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, a master's degree in zoology from The Ohio State University and also studied at Loyola University of Chicago. In preparation for his ordination to the priesthood, Prior Boniface completed a baccalaureate degree in sacred theology (STB) at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant'Anselmo, the Benedictine university in Rome, as well as the coursework for an advanced degree in the history of theology in the Mabillon Institute at Sant’Anselmo.

Prior Boniface serves as a member of the Senior Council, as a cantor in the liturgy and as a monastic member of the University Board of Directors. He is active with several of the Abbey crafts and enterprises, including as a carpenter, a tailor in making of habits, surplices, stoles, and with the care of the Abbey flock of laying hens. He assists with weekend parish assignments and as an associate professor of theology and life sciences at St. Gregory's University.
