Fr. Eugene Marshall, O.S.B.
Father Eugene was born and raised in Harrah, OK, where he attended St. Teresa Catholic Church with his family. He made monastic profession of vows on July 11, 1944, and was ordained a priest on February 25, 1950. He is the eldest member of the monastic community and most senior monk, having passed the 70th anniversary of his monastic profession.
Fr. Eugene attended St. Gregory's College and completed his theological studies at St. Gregory's Abbey. After his ordination, he attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of California at Los Angeles, completing a master's in Library Science. He was the first professional librarian at St. Gregory's, serving for several decades as head librarian for the high school and college. In that role he was responsible for greatly enhancing the library collection. As a librarian he also learned how to bind and repair books. Following his retirement from the library, he served as pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in McLoud, OK. Fr. Eugene likewise served for many years in roles of leadership in the monastery as prior, subprior, and novice master.
Fr. Eugene is currently residence at the Abbey, and participates actively in all scheduled activities of the community. He takes great interest in the business of the monastery and university, inquiring about student activities and special projects of the monks. He is known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, both of which he has instilled in the lives of countless persons.
