Br. Peter Shults was received as a postulant at St. Gregory’s Abbey in March 2015, was clothed as a novice on July 10, 2015, and made his first profession of vows on July 11, 2016. He grew up in Del City, OK, a suburb on the east side of Oklahoma City. After high school, he completed a bachelor’s degree in accounting at the University of Oklahoma. Following this, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with distinction in the military for ten years, and completing tours of duty in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the United States. While in the Army he earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting.
Br. Peter serves as the Sacristan for the Abbey and is responsible for maintaining the landscaping around the monastery grounds. In addition to this, he is taking courses in philosophy and theology at St. Gregory’s University. Br. Peter enjoys manual labor, especially when gardening and landscaping work. He is honing his woodworking skills, learning the art of scroll saw work.
